What is Universal Children’s Day?
The United Nations first established World Children’s Day in 1954 as a way to promote international togetherness, awareness among children worldwide, and improving children’s welfare. It started to show children around the world that they matter to adults. Every year, groups around the world use this time to make sure they are meeting the needs of families and ensuring the success of future generations. The date shows when the UN General Assembly signed the Declaration of the Rights of the Child as well as the Convention on the Rights of the Child in 1989. At Creekside Orthodontics, we believe children are the future, so we are happy to acknowledge this holiday as any other!
Orthodontic Treatment for Children in Billings, Montana
Though an orthodontist can enhance a smile at any age, screening at an early age ensures the greatest potential for results and the least amount of time and expense. The American Association of Orthodontists (AAO) recommends that the initial orthodontic evaluation should occur no later than age 7. At this early age, orthodontic treatment may not be necessary, but vigilant examination can anticipate the most advantageous time to begin treatment.
Though metal braces are most often associated with orthodontic treatment, we offer many other effective options that can work wonders for growing teeth and accommodate every child’s lifestyle! Our team will be happy to review them with you in greater detail during your first visit so that we can determine the best course of action for your child.
The Benefits of Orthodontic Treatment for Children
Early orthodontic treatment aims to guide and regulate the width of both dental arches. The main goal of early treatment is to provide enough space for the permanent teeth to erupt correctly. Good candidates for early treatment include: children who have difficulty biting properly, children who lose baby teeth early, children whose jaws click or grind during movement, bruxers, and children who use the mouth (as opposed to the nose AND mouth) to breathe.
Orthodontic treatment can do much more than simply straighten teeth—it can improve oral health, help with brushing and flossing more effectively, increase self-confidence, and even enjoy a higher quality of life as you grow up!
